AEPC 2025 - Young Investigator Award

The AEPC & JSPCCS each year offer the AEPC-JSPCCS Young Investigator Award (YIA).

The top ranking abstracts submitted by Junior members of AEPC & JSPCCS are selected during the abstract review process, and are invited for presentation during the Young Investigator Award session. The winners are announced during the networking dinner.

All finalists from this session are invited to present their work at the YIA session during the JSPCCS Annual Meeting in Mie, Japan from 10-12 July (expenses covered), and the winner will receive an additional award of EUR 1,000.

AEPC winner: Wannes Renders (Belgium) - Genetic background of patients with childhood-onset cardiomyopathy: Results from a retrospective cohort study

JSPCCS winner: Yuka Hayashida (Japan) - Medical and social outcomes of paediatric heart transplantation

Below are the names of the 6 YIA finalists that took part in this year's Young Investigator Award session:

  • Risk factors for reintervention in children with subaortic stenosis: A 20-year single-center experience - Jelena Hubrechts, Belgium
  • Genetic background of patients with childhood-onset cardiomyopathy: Results from a retrospective cohort study - Wannes Renders, Belgium
  • Brain-derived neurotrophic factor - A promising neuromarker for psychomotor developmental impairment in children with unrepaired congenital heart defects - Lacramioara Eliza Chiperi, Romania
  • Usefulness of fetal electrocardiogram monitoring in evaluating treatment indications for fetal supraventricular tachycardia - Takeshi Ikegawa, Japan
  • Enhancing mesenchymal stem cells with a mitochondria-targeted drug delivery system for cardiac disease treatment - Yuji Maruo, Japan
  • Medical and social outcomes of paediatric heart transplantation - Yuka Hayashida, Japan
